UnionsWA has today commented on the release by the McGowan Government of a review of services.
Meredith Hammat, Secretary, UnionsWA said:
“Those employed in the public sector are, of course, anxious about this review.
“All West Australians know that the previous Liberal Government left our government in a severe financial mess.
“Those in the public sector work, day in and day out, to deliver essential services to the public.
“Some will be sceptical as in the past “reviews” have quickly turn into job losses and resulted in public sector working people having to do even more with even less.
“The previous Liberal Government was all about privatisation and across the board cuts; both approaches were unpopular and unsuccessful.
“Any cuts to services and job losses are a concern, especially as the economy in WA is weak.
“Efforts by the McGowan Government to improve the delivery of public services deserve to be met with goodwill, but of course the detail matters.
“The public sector workforce and public sector unions will constructively engage in the service review process.”
