The long-awaited Work Health and Safety Bill 2019 has just been introduced to the Western Australian Parliament. To RSVP for this briefing on the Bill please complete your details below. Note: For our supporters in regional WA, please do RSVP here and we will email you with details of our live-streaming of the event during which we will hear from Owen Whittle, UnionsWA Assistant Secretary. For those in Perth we'll be hearing him over a drink and some nibbles.

These laws are important to the union movement and govern the health and safety of almost all working West Australians. These laws have not been updated in over 30 years. They don't protect working people in the gig-economy, they didn't account for the impact of workloads and work related stress on mental health and employers can dodge their responsibilities in too many ways, including insuring themselves against fines for breaking the law. The Bill and associated Explanatory Memorandum can be viewed and downloaded here. You can view the first reading speech of the Bill by Minister Johnston online here (from 19 minutes and 30 seconds onwards).
