2023 Harold Peden Lecture

Dr Laurie Glassop holds a a PhD in Chemistry (UWA) and is a Certified Occupational Hygienist (COH) with the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH). He is also a Fellow of the AIOH and he has a received its highest award of the Pam de Silva Medal which recognises commitment to the principles of leadership and scientific integrity in the field of occupational hygiene. For the last 25 years he has worked as a specialist occupational hygiene consultant in his own company, prior to which he was a senior manager at WorkSafe WA. Laurie has been involved with some higher profile issues in recent years; conducting an assessment of the ventilation systems in the 10 COVID quarantine hotels after the first security guard was infected in January 2021, COVID assessment of the ventilation of all prisons and detention centres in Western Australia, reviewing for Safe Work Australia the ability to measure a lower WES for respirable crystalline silica and, reviewing the measurement of asbestos exposures using the Membrane Filter Method for Resources Safety & Health Queensland.
