News News WA Jobs from WA Resources Rally Success

Over 5000 workers, employers and community members rallied at Parliament House on Tuesday the 15th demanding WA jobs from WA resources.

The march from the Esplanade up to Parliament House was led by AMWU (Australian Manufacturing Workers Union) Secretary Steve McCartney and UnionsWA President Meredith Hammat. In attendance were white and blue collar union members, employers, representatives from the Australian Steel Institute and community members.

The rally is part of an ongoing campaign headed by the AMWU, APESMA (Association of Professionals, Engineers, Scientists and Managers) and the Australian Steel Institute. The campaign demands government action so that large resource projects don't contract out manufacturing and construction work overseas that could b done in WA.

The rally was attended by numerous politicians from the ALP, the Greens and the Liberals. Premier Barnett addressed the crowd to loud jeers saying that WA was not currently experiencing a resources boom.
