Ending Violence and Harassment in the World of Work – International and Australian Developments

Tuesday August 7th, 5:30 - 7:00 pm

State School Teachers" Union WA, West Perth

In 2018 the International Labour Organisation (ILO) began the discussion for a new international standard on violence and harassment at work.  If adopted (2019) this standard will be the ILO’s first standard on this subject. The timing of the discussion is significant with the growing awareness of the impact of gendered violence in the workplace and the momentum generated by the #MeToo movement. Unions WA is hosting an evening seminar that will explore:

  • the proposed content of the new convention
  • the implications of a new International Labour Standard on violence and harassment in the world of work
  • how we can support the standard setting process to ensure the strongest text is contained in the Convention and;
  • developments within Australia regarding action to eliminate gendered violence at work

Lisa Heap will lead the conversation. To RSVP please complete your details below.

Lisa Heap is Professor (Adjunct) at the Australian Catholic University’s Institute for Religion, Politics and Society. In June 2018, she attended the International Labour Conference as an Adviser to the Australian Worker’s Delegation for the conversation regarding the establishment on a new international convention on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment Against Men and Women in the World of Work. Anyone interested in eliminating violence and harassment at work is invited to attend the seminar.
