ACTU Indigenous Leaders Program - UnionsWA

ACTU Indigenous Leaders Program

Western Australia 9 – 13 June 2014

Many Australian unions are engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members and communities through their representative structures, industrial campaigns and multilateral employment and community agreements.

The ACTU and ACTU Indigenous Committee believe that providing foundational leadership training to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members already engaged in their unions will see more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander unionists engage confidently with their union and within the union movement more broadly.

The goals of the program are:

• To increase the engagement of Indigenous activists in the union movement;
• To empower indigenous leaders;
• To develop potential as future union/union-community organisers;
• To increase unions strategic engagement with indigenous workers and communities.

The week long program will include in class training and a one day placement with the participants’ unions.

There is no cost for this training course, however unions will be responsible for organising any travel/accommodation for regional participants.
