Wrong priorities for budget
UnionsWA today commented on the State Government announcement that it will reduce the public sector workforce by 1,500.
Meredith Hammat, President UnionsWA said:
“Today’s Budget statement highlights that not enough was made of the resources boom.
“Public services are paying the price for wrong priorities and bad decisions.
“Too much public money is being spent on major building projects in and around the CBD.
“It is folly to park public money into a Future Fund.
“WA needs investment in services such as the dental school program, public transport to reduce traffic congestion and mental health services among others.
“Instead the Government is cutting the public sector workforce by 1,500 while our population continues to grow.
“That can only mean one thing, poorer services for the public.”
