Swan slams WA govt over IR

Treasurer Wayne Swan has accused the West Australian state government of threatening to "go down the road" of bringing back the worst aspects of Work Choices.

The Barnett government has been accused by the unions and state Labor of sitting on the Amendola report into state industrial relations which they claim recommends the introduction of Work Choices-style laws.

In December last year, former coalition government industrial relations advocate Steven Amendola handed his report on the state's industrial relations system to the government.

On Monday, Mr Swan said that despite Tony Abbott saying Work Choices was "dead, buried and cremated", the federal Opposition Leader would bring back the worst parts of the controversial industrial relations legislation.

While campaigning in Perth, the treasurer went further and suggested the WA government was planning to do the same.

"I gather there's a pretty important report on the desk of someone in the state government that's proposing to go down that road as well," he said in Perth.
"That's another threat to living standards of many people living in this state.

"The fact (is) that a state government is not in the national framework and has got the capacity to go back to the worst aspects of Work Choices through state-based laws."
