UnionsWA Occupational Safety and Health Officer role

Consultation and representation for the Commission for Occupational Safety and Health.

One key role of the Occupational Safety and Health Officer is the participation in tripartism, that is to support and respond to activities associated with the Commission for Occupational Safety and Health, its advisory committees and its working parties.

Promotion of the role of Unions in OSH

Collectivism and the importance of unionism in enabling workers to resolve issues in the workplace is integral to the promotion of OSH.

This includes:

  • Co-ordinating and delivering information sessions for unions and delegates on provisions of the OSH Act and promoting activism around OSH.
  • Development of promotional material to assist unions and their memberships in understanding and implementing the provisions of the Act and activism around OSH.
  • Facilitating/encouraging OSH representatives in the workplace, through union membership, OSH reps and safety committees.
  • Work with unions on how to support the OSH reps in the workplace to ensure effective OSH.

Consulting and advising affiliates regarding OSH

UnionsWA key role is to keep affiliates up to date on relevant OSH issues.
