BHP Imposes New Workplace Agreement
Friday, 25 July 2008 15:24
When is an AWA not an AWA? When it’s the BHP Billiton Iron Ore Employee Workplace Agreement 2008.

BHP has responded to the abolition of Australian Workplace Agreements (AWAs) by introducing a new agreement which has been voted on by less than 50 of its total workforce (of 2000) but will apply to all employees for the next five years.

In a letter to employees explaining the new agreement, BHP admits that the conditions in new agreement are: ‘... identical to those of all existing AWA[s].’

WA Unions will mount a campaign to challenge the new deal struck at BHP’s Iron Ore operation, which they believe to be an overt strategy to deny employees meaningful negotiation.
