Young People Over-Represented in Workplace Deaths
Sunday, 08 April 2007 12:44

30 workplace deaths have occurred in WA in the last year, with people under 24 representing a quarter of those killed.

The latest death was as recently as last week, when a 19 year-old was killed while operating a forklift at a fertilizer plant in Kwinana.

And in late March, a 22 year old apprentice cabinet maker was crushed when he attempted to stop stack of chipboard falling.

“We are living in an affluent society, our economy is booming, but still people are dying at work,” the Acting Secretary of UnionsWA Simone McGurk said today.
